A Letter From the Founder
Hi, I'm Heather.
I started the British Business Tapestry because I wanted to do something different for British businesses.
I've seen how much goes into running a business. There's the work itself, finding customers, keeping things going and trying to get people to notice what you do. For smaller businesses especially, it can feel like you're constantly having to shout to be heard.
I wanted to create something that brought businesses together in a different way.
That's where the Tapestry came from.
So, what's the idea?
Imagine a huge piece of digital artwork made up of business logos from across Britain. Every business has its own patch, and when someone clicks on it, they can go straight to that business's website or social media.
That's the British Business Tapestry.
It's not another list of businesses to scroll through, and it's not about deciding who's the best or who deserves to be at the top. It's about bringing lots of different businesses together in one place and giving people another way to discover them.
And the more businesses that join, the bigger the Tapestry becomes.
Why does this matter to me?
I think there's something special about independent businesses and the people behind them. Every business has a story, whether it's someone working on their own from home, a family-run shop or a company that's been going for years.
I wanted to create something that celebrates that variety.
I'm not promising that joining will bring you a certain number of customers or sales. What I can offer is a place in a growing piece of artwork, with your own clickable patch linking people directly to your business.
I want people to be able to explore the Tapestry, spot a logo that catches their eye and discover a business they might not otherwise have found.
Sometimes the simplest ideas are the ones worth trying.
Where could this go?
Right now, I'm concentrating on growing the British Business Tapestry and bringing more businesses into it.
I'd love to see it grow across the UK, with businesses from all sorts of industries and communities represented. And, further down the line, I'd love to explore the idea in other countries too.
That's a big ambition, and there's plenty of work ahead. But every business that joins helps bring the idea a little closer to what I imagined when I started.
